Country may be a world filled with men in boots, hats, guitars, and rough and tough songs but there is one female presence that has no problem fitting in.
Miranda Lambert, a Texas native who began her stardom as a finalist in the television show “Nashville Star”, isn’t shy to making music that fits more into the traditional country genre, as opposed to the more recent pop style teen fan based crowd.
As the third stop of the second half of her “2014/2015 Platinum Tour” Lambert found herself in the heart of Columbus, Ohio at Nationwide arena, playing to a near sold-out crowd. With two opening guests, “The Voice” finalist RaeLynn and Arkansas native Justin Moore, the show gave a taste of nearly all three forms of current country music.
First out to preform, RaeLynn, who is only 20 years old, brings a more youthful crowd to her style of music. Still a country artist, her music does have a more upbeat and pop style to it. Her hit song “God Made Girls” was a hit amongst not just the young fans in the crowd but the older generations as well.
After came Justin Moore, 30, who has about the most country sounding voice out there. When Moore first took the stage, some may have mistaken him for country legend Kenny Chesney. His white cowboy hat, grey shirt, blue jeans and brown boots gave a striking resemblance of a younger Chesney. His set was a big hit amongst the ladies in the crowd, and even the men. Having been around the country scene a little longer more of the crowd knew his songs, including “Small Town USA” and “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away”. At times the crowd sang so loud they over powered Moore.
Finally the time had come that most of the audience had waited for, the current queen of country herself, Miranda Lambert. With the crowd as loud and energetic as it could get the screen on stage played “Something Bad” a duet Lambert sings with Carrie Underwood. At the last note of the chorus the lights went dark and the stage lit up, down dropped curtain and a rock and roll styled Lambert appeared and beganthe show.
Anyone who knows her music knows she loves to sing about drinking, cheating ex-boyfriends, growing up in small southern towns, and sometimes even being able to shot a gun properly. But those who don’t know her music well probably don’t know her more reserved and personal side to her music. Twice during the show Lambert slowed down her fast paced songs and sang two very personal songs to her. “Over You” which she co-wrote with her husband and country start Blake Shelton and “The House That Built Me” had the crowd and even me in tears.
These along with the rest of the songs Lambert sang during her show and on her albums proves once again, women really do belong in country music. Lambert will continue the rest of her tour until August making a stop in Toledo, Ohio on Feb. 19.
